I wonder if Laurie who left the first comment knows about the change to Canadian citizenship law whereby her foreign-born sons will not be able to get Canadian citizenship for their children if they are born outside of Canada.

@courosa how interesting - thank you for sharing. I was aware of some, but not all, of those status amendments. Seems like blessing + curse?

- Posted using Chat Catcher

While my story is slightly different from yours, I have a connection. My sons were born outside the country. Because of my Canadian citizenship, they also are Canadian citizens. Your pictures of your daughters "status" cards reminded me of how I felt when I opened the letter that contained their Canadian citizenship cards.
You comment on a topic that was brought to my attention in my graduate studies was timely. The idea of privilege (in my case white privilege) is one that many folks are not ready to discuss. I hope that our children (mine and yours as well as others born into privilege) will use their privilege to make others aware of the racisms and inequities that abound in our society and act to make our country and world a better place for all. Obama has shown us that anything is possible. His simple words in his acceptance speech (Yes we can!) are big words.
